Ben from Clipper DEX Talks Community, Web3 Trends and Web3 Predictions
Clipper DEX is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that's built for retail traders.
Welcome to a new entry of the Zealy Blog! Today we are talking to Ben, Head of Community at Clipper Dex! Join us as we explore the project community strategies and more insights!
Tell us about your Project
Clipper is a custom-built DEX for Retail Traders. Clipper is a decentralized exchange (DEX) designed to have the lowest per-transaction costs for small-to-medium-sized trades. It intends to be the best place for self-made traders to buy and sell the most popular crypto assets.
Most of the existing DEXs prioritize high dollar trading volume above everything else. While this may sound nice, the unfocused “growth for the sake of growth” model generates profit-scalping opportunities for bot-driven front-runners and arbitrageurs – often to the detriment of average retail traders.
Meanwhile, on centralized exchanges, retail traders typically get the worst deals; they often pay up to 10x higher fees than institutional traders.
Today's exchanges are built to serve everyone, but their focus on volume means their benefits accrue only to large professional traders, hedge funds, and market makers.
Clipper’s Core Design Principle is the lopsided rejection of the “one-size-fits-all” model most other DEXs have adopted. To that end, Clipper's key goal is optimizing prices for smaller trades (≤$50K).
Clipper's north star is and always will be the retail trader.
Tell us about yourself and your role in the project
My title is Head of Community, and my job is:
- To delight, entertain and educate the Clipper Community
- Act as the liaison between the development team and the community.
I got involved with Clipper/Shipyard because I was moved by their mission to provide Free and Fair Markets to all, and after interviewing with them, it was clear this is not shtick, it is the purpose of the company.
Before this position, I worked as a criminal public defender, my clients were the poorest in society and had the full and cruel strength of the government pointed at them - my job was to protect them.
I'm taking that ethos from serving a small population in one county in the United States to Web3, where we can assist the small and voiceless from the economic powers that be.
Web3 seems like an area of our society where there is a true opportunity for radical redistribution of wealth and power, and I want to be on the front lines of seeing that change!
Why do you like using Zealy?
Zealy is a wonderful way for community members to elevate and distinguish themselves from others as true power Users within our community. Specifically, for our last month-long community event (Adventure 3 - Constructing Clippertopia), we used Zealy as the vehicle for our pirates to grapple with and demonstrate knowledge and mastery of Clipper Community Values.
What’s your Quest strategy like - and your absolute favourite Quest?
I like to make my community think about an issue and then communicate and discuss it with others. So, a current favourite Quest of mine is asking an open-ended question about a relevant Web3 topic inviting the community to respond in our Discord and link to the discussion.
Only the topics that have lively, earnest back-and-forth are approved!
What Rewards do you currently offer your community?
We built an in-house character, profile, and inventory screen, and we use discord roles, Zealy points, and other metrics to determine rewards which are generally NFTs that can be displayed in that profile screen.
Holding NFTs gives points so that a User with a higher score is probably a more active, knowledgeable User of Clipper DEX. We will also reward our power Users with financial givebacks, too!
What trends do you see in Web3? What are your predictions for what’s coming up next?
One silver lining of the FTX saga is that it has put Decentralized Finance in a much more positive light.
People are finally understanding that you don't need to rely on large centralized order books to participate in markets. It feels good that our DEX is a (really, the best) tool out there to do it!
What other Web3 projects are you also super excited about right now?
Shipyard Software, the team that developed Clipper DEX is also working on launching a new DEX, Longship, which focuses on perpetual derivates contracts, designed natively for DeFi.
Much of Clipper's architecture was designed for retail traders, and Longship's architecture will similarly be best in the market for those that like to trade on margin.
Thanks for your time today, Ben! Where else can people find your project?
